On March 30, 2023, the Islamic Civilization & Societies Program at Boston College hosted Dr. Foley’s talk entitled “Art’s Mission is Freeing Life: The Creative Class and Social Change in Contemporary Saudi Arabia.” The talk explored why Saudi leaders and ordinary citizens alike see art and culture as essential elements to transform the nation’s society and its place in the world. It also looked at how the country’s creative class has responded to their changing society while voicing emerging trends and the ideas of their fellow Saudi citizens.
