Dr. Foley’s article, “When Collision Emerges as Unexpected Harmony: Saud Responses to the Arab Spring,” is based in part on nine months of research in the Kingdom in 2013 and 2014. It provides a fresh approach to explain how the country has weathered the recent turmoil in the Middle East and utilzies a host of new sources, including football (soccer), the food industry, and the work of leading visual artits. Among the artists discussed are Abdulnasser Gharem and Ahmed Mater, both of whom helped found Edge of Arabia in 2003, an influential artistic movement that originated in the Al-Meftaha Arts Village in Abha, the capital of the southern Sauid province of ‘Asir.
