The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, DC (AGSIW) published “Storytelling in today’s Saudi Arabia,” an article by Dr. Foley on the Saudi Arabian Ramadan TV Drama, “Al-Asouf.” The TV drama, which stars legendary Saudi actor and comedian Nasser al-Qasabi, featured the first portrayal on Saudi television of the siege of the Grand Mosque in Mecca in 1979–a major turning point in the history of the kingdom and the wider Muslim world.
