The Middle East Institute (MEI) (Washington, DC) features Dr. Foley’s Analysis of Malaysia’s 13th General Elections and their impact on the Middle East, Malaysians Vote–The Middle East Watches. The analysis piece is part of MEI’s Middle East Asia Project and discusses the factors that made the May 5, 2013 elections the closest in Malaysia’s history and how the elections could impact nations in the Middle East, especially those undergoing democratic transitions after the Arab Spring. The piece builds on Foley’s extensive experience in the Arab World and Southeast Asia, including his time as a Fulbright scholar in Malaysia, Syria, and Turkey.
